We are composed of people from many different ethnic, religious and non-religious backgrounds, women and men. This is one of our great strengths. We believe that in all necessities of life everyday people can and must be self-governing. We want our peoples, and peoples of all nations, to be self-managing in exactly those affairs that our oppressors say we cannot: economic planning, judicial and military decisions, and all cultural matters. We stand on two basic principles: democracy and anti-racism. We want to promote discussion of Palestine/Israel, the wider Middle East and beyond, within Palestine solidarity circles and the general public. We seek to further the struggle by isolating the Zionist Apartheid state through community based organizing in our local, regional, national, and international communities. We believe the great strength of the Palestinian struggle is its ability to mobilize diverse and ordinary people in the name of democracy, anti-racism, and equal rights for Palestinians and Jews in Palestine/Israel. Further, we believe Palestine is not a charity. It should not be the focus of protest wishing changes in only policies of the states of Israel and America alike. We don’t need a loyal opposition. Palestine is a reminder that we need to oppose all authoritarian regimes, including that of the United States, for the principles of democracy and anti-racism to survive and prosper. We believe the strengths of Palestine solidarity are in direct contrast to the Zionist movement’s ability (and major weakness) to enlist only two groups to their side. The first is the majority of Jewish people, many who have a passive or ambiguous relationship to Zionism. The second is U.S. and European politicians, bureaucrats and their ideologues in the name of a war on people of color. Israel’s claim to be the only "civilized" and "rational" democracy in the Middle East is a thinly veiled and ugly defense of white supremacy and colonialism. We believe the Zionist claim, that Jewish identity must be synonymous with defending the state of Israel as an embodiment of democratic spirit, is both militantly hostile to true unity among nations and everyday people's right to determine their own destiny. This claim compromises the democratic integrity of the Jewish community and their legitimate historical concerns as an oppressed nationality. However, the integrity of the states and ruling elites of Israel and America, regardless of political party affiliation, are unredeemable. We support ALL oppressed people in the Palestinian struggle. No sector of people can be "sacrificed" or negotiated away in the name of a particular strategy. In fact, one of the great strategic strengths of the Palestinian struggle is to be found in the work of the most marginal and invisible, the Palestinian Israeli "citizens" and the refugees. We seek the following:
We believe strength in Palestine solidarity is in building popular power in our workplaces, communities, and schools. Electoralism, lobbying for this or that policy, and other attempts to enter the rules of hierarchy under the guise of being "responsible" breeds nothing but corruption, weakness, and defeat. We confront not a Jewish, Arab or Muslim problem but obstacles to democracy, international and multi-racial solidarity--a concern of all peoples of good will. We believe a people to people foreign policy from below is not only the best way to organize Palestine solidarity in America. It is the only way to ensure people empower themselves to take control of their own lives. It is essential for the preservation of the principles of democracy and anti-racism in our own communities. |
